SmartST2006 isn't so smart! It kept saying I wasn't connected to internet when it was registering my product key' despite it most definitely being connected and I had temporarily disabled my AVG firewall just in case it was blocking. This I unfortunately discovered once I had already removed the existing maps as instructed part of install. I just had same problem while trying to load 2008 maps onto N40i. Once you select the map data, it will begin to download to your computer. Once the unit has synchronized with the NavDesk software you will be informed that a later map is available. You will be prompted that a map upgrade is available through the NavDesk software. Install the nav desk software to you p.c and connect the navman to the pc via the usb cable.
Thanks for reading i hope this helps someone. Theres so many wonderfull things you can do with these navmans aswell as GPS, like watch video and play music belive it or not. After connecting and running Navdesk it would not backup the device and m. I tried to update my maps after installing Navdesk after I installed Windows8. Step #6) Install the maps that are unlocked or the maps you want(you may have to buy maps that were not a standard map when your navman was brought. Step #5) under the tools tab, select the reinstall navman software option, it will ask you to back up but as there should be nothing to back up it doesnt matter, and then it should reinstall the navman software into the nav man. Step #3) Install navdesk 2008 Step #4) under the tools tab, select the recover keys options.
Step #2) Format the navmans internal memory and then cancel the format about 5 seconds into it, but less then half way. Step #1) Back up entire data from navman onto a disc or hard drive.
